My studio is located at 833 Main Street in downtown Tell City, Indiana. According to local courthouse records, the studio was built in 1868. This old building has a rich and varied history, having once been a jail, a boarding house, two different restaurants, and a tavern. Over the past 35 years, I have gutted the old and crumbling parts and replaced them with new while attempting to maintain the charm and character of the building. I have taken down walls, added on, and salvaged a piece of history in the process. A new studio could have been built for the amount of time and money I’ve invested in this old building; but I wouldn’t change the way it has worked out. I love my historic building and my customers are always telling me they love it too. ♥
As Vice President of the Tell City Downtown Development and Action Committee, I am doing my best with my own studio to help maintain the charm of our historic Main Street community. Our committee strives to restore and improve our Main Street and the surrounding downtown area to make it more charming and family friendly every year.
The Outdoor Studio
I love flowers almost as much as I love children and have been accused of having two green thumbs! When spring arrives, I can hardly wait to start digging and planting. Gardening is a passion of mine and I am convinced I will run out of room long before I tire of it.
Every year, I add more perennials and flowering plants to extend the outdoor photography season. The outdoor studio has many different looks, with greenery and blooms for nearly seven months of the year. (Eight months if you count portraits in the snow!) With its winding brick walkway, rock wall, weathered brick, stately pavilion, beautiful courtyard, small bridge, colorful flowers, greenery and fence, the creative opportunities are endless.
